To keep our tradition of organizing conferences at unique places, we are returning to the Palau de la Música Catalana, a fabulous World Heritage site and an architectural jewel of Catalan Modernism.

Our workshops will take place at the IED Istituto Europeo di Design! Barcelona is a cosmopolitan city and the only major European city with beaches and a harbour in the city center. Flying to Barcelona is easy. Many airlines have direct connections to Barcelona. For further information on how to get to Barcelona, please check WikiTravel. Palau de la Música Catalana

The home of the conference will be one of Barcelona's most magnificent buildings – the Palau de la Música Catalana – built in from 1905 to 1908. It was built by the architect Domènech i Montaner and his team of associates, including some of the foremost artists of the age Pau Gargallo and Eusebi Arnau, who crafted the sculptures.

The Palau is a masterpiece of Catalan modernist archictecture. It's a landmark statment on the cultural and social life of Barcelona as well as an artistic landmark of outstanding beauty, and a highly regarded music venue. For Smashing, we are thrilled to call it "home" for our 2017 Conference!

IED Barcelona

Most of our workshops will take place at the IED Barcelona Design University located in the quaint neighbourhood of Gràcia.

IED has excellent public transport connections via the underground metro system (Metro L3 - Green Line - to Fontana stop) and buses. Several bike hiring stations are located nearby, too.

The IED Barcelona Design University is located in the authentic neighbourhood of Gràcia at walking distance of many emblematic Gaudi’s works like Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà ’La Pedrera’.

Hotels

Thanks to its popularity as a touristic destination, Barcelona has a wonderful range of hotels on offer. We recommend to stay in the districts Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Born, which are close to the city centre. From these areas, our conference venue, Palau de la Música, is within easy walking distance.

By plane

Barcelona is served by Barcelona International Airport in the town of El Prat de Llobregat, about 3 km from Barcelona. The airport is connected to the city by aerobus and taxis. ### Aerobus Aerobus is the bus service that connects the Airport with the centre of Barcelona leaving every 5 minutes, every day of the year. In approximately 35 minutes you can go from, or return to, Airport Terminals (T1 or T2) comfortably and economically, without having to change stations or stops. The route covers strategic stops in the city. The Plaza Catalunya stop leaves you within walking distance from the conference venue district. (

Taxi

A taxi from the airport to the city centre will cost about 25/28 Euros. All cabs are metered with additional charges from the airport and for baggage, which you can find detailed on the right rear passenger window. You will find taxi stops on outside each terminal. Please mind to ask the driver if Credit Cards are accepted before you start the ride.
