Emanuela Damiani works every day for the best browser experience at Firefox. She fell in love with the Web at a young age, and since then she has never stopped studying and learning it. In her career, she helped companies and organisation to innovate through design practices. Nowadays Emanuela is exploring design systems for complex, mutable environments, aim to enable everyone to understand and use design. In her spare time, she likes to watch kitten videos, and she never says no to a good cocktail.
Matteo Cavucci is a tech consultant and design thinking practitioner. He helps knowledge-based organisations, including design-driven companies, to operate better in the 21st century. Coming from a liberal art background, he has a wide experience in leading high-performance teams across the research/design/development spectrum. His interests focus on researching a better way of foster effective communication and creating rapid feedback loops. He’s currently working as a senior consultant at ThoughtWorks, helping multidisciplinary teams to grow and practising agile fluency.
Umar is a front-end web developer at Springer Nature based in London, with a focus on writing tips, tutorials and documentation for the web platform. One of the projects he plans to explore and share with the community is using tooling such as the Chrome DevTools for an improved development workflow, but also for debugging performance issues.
Alla Kholmatova is a UX and interaction designer with a nine-year experience of working on the web, for a range of products and companies. Most recently she was a senior product designer at an open education platform, FutureLearn.
She’s particularly interested in design systems, language, and collaborative ways of working. In the last two years this interest has led her to spend a huge amount of time working on and researching the subject.
She’s been sharing her insights with people through articles, workshops, and projects. Alla contributes to design publications, such as A List Apart, and speaks at conferences around the world.
Scott is a security researcher, entrepreneur and international speaker who specialises in web technologies.
He is a cofounder of Hardenize and creator of report-uri.io and securityheaders.io, free online tools to help sites deploy better security. His goal is to make the Web a safer place.
Rachel Andrew is a front and back-end web developer, author and speaker. She has written several web development books, including chapters for two Smashing Books and is an A List Apart columnist, writing about the business of web development. She also writes about business and technology on her own site at rachelandrew.co.uk. In addition to offering consultancy services through the company she founded in 2001 – edgeofmyseat.com – Rachel is also one of the developers of the content management system, Perch.
Ilya is a front-end developer with a passion for product development, cutting-edge technologies, and modern approaches to software engineering. He’s also a lover of all things JavaScript, IoT, Mobile, Serverless and recently a Front-End master on the new Smashing website!
Barry is a UX/UI designer, co-founder, and creative director with over 20 years experience in web technologies. As the Creative Director for the Apple Webkit Rich Media team he designed pattern libraries, APIs and SDKs for iTunes, iAd and Safari – leading to what is now referred to as HTML5. He is also the co-founder of DevRelSummit.com, an event focused on industry professionals in Developer Relations, and a select list of project case studies can be found on his website at InstigateCreative.com.
Mike is an independent web developer from Australia who has worked on some of Australia’s largest websites as well as some of the smallest community sites. When he’s not building websites or writing about building websites, he likes to experiment with code. Mike loves learning new things and finding techniques that challenge what we think is best practice. When he’s not exploring the digital landscape, he likes to explore the world. Currently trying to find a way to do both those things at the same time.
After doing many different things, from financial auditing, digital marketing, strategy, and product management, Sara found her passion for human-centered design and for bringing out the best in people.
Sara is very passionate about and committed to creating diverse and inclusive environments both in the workplace and in society as a whole. She is currently the Learning Designer at The New Digital School, an alternative digital design education project, based in Porto, Portugal.
Tiago Pedras is the founder of The New Digital School, a groundbreaking alternative in design higher education in Porto, Portugal. Working with the web since 1998, in 2007 he founded his own web design studio which was later acquired by Surreal, an internacional branding strategy agency, where he is currently Digital Design Director. He’s also been teaching all things about the web since 2006 at ESAD, Matosinhos School of Art and Design.
Chris is a front-end developer at Campaign Monitor in Sydney, where he makes software which simplifies creating elegant email campaigns.
He loves writing about and experimenting with CSS and learning in the open. He is interested in the bridge between web disciplines and how we can create better cross-functional teams with shared understanding. He loves hiking and enjoys experiencing the great outdoors.
Alma Hoffmann is a quirky and funky design educator who motivates and pushes her students to be the best they can be. She is not a stranger to explore unconventional teaching methods—such as laying on the floor, if needed, to look at something from another point of view, or making students look at things upside down. Her curiosity drives her to explore and continue learning. She is also the Design editor at Smashing since many years. Her curiosity drives her to explore and continue learning. Matt Biilmann has been building developer tools, content management systems and web infrastructure for more than a decade. He is co-founder and CEO of Netlify, a static hosting platform. In his spare time he drinks Jazz and listens to Beer, while helping to organize the SF Static Web-Tech Meetup.
